This privacy statement applies to and Medical Professional Mutual Insurance Company and its subsidiaries, including Med-IQ, Inc. (collectively, “Coverys”, “us”, “our”, or “we”) websites, portals, mobile apps, products, and services that collect data and display these terms (collectively, “Services”). This privacy statement does not apply to Coverys websites, portals, products and services that do not display or link to this statement or that have their own privacy statements.

Please read this privacy statement before using our Services or submitting personal information to us.


About Coverys and the Scope of this Notice


Coverys primarily provides medical professional liability insurance and other services to entity customers. In this context, some Coverys business units and groups act as service providers. This means that they collect and use personal information on behalf of, and subject to the instructions of, a client (for example, where a Coverys entity provides claims management services to business customers). As between Coverys and our business customers, our business customers are primarily responsible for how we use and disclose the personal information we collect in our role as a service provider. This privacy statement does not apply any personal information that Coverys maintains on behalf of our business customers. If you have questions about how we process your personal information on behalf of a business customer, we may direct your inquiries to that customer.

In addition, this privacy statement does not apply to information that we collect in connection with issuing a financial product or service and that is subject to the GLBA (Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act) or health/medical information covered by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996). 


Information We Collect: Information You Provide


We collect information that either directly identifies you or could reasonably be used in combination with other information to identify you (“personal information”). Through our Services, Coverys collects personal information from you when you choose to share it with us to contact us; request marketing materials, reports, publications and risk management resources; provide information regarding claims or potential claims; submit a membership registration; apply for employment with us; or register to use any password-protected portions of our websites.

The personal information we collect may include your name, address, telephone number, mobile telephone number, e-mail address, job title, employment/education history, NPI Number, and any other information you submit to us. You may also be required to provide certain other information to access and use certain products or services that we offer. We do not require you to register or provide this information to us to view our websites or have access to our content.


Information We Collect: Information Collected Automatically


Coverys may use cookies, web beacons, pixel tags, log files, or other technologies to collect certain information about visitors to and users of our websites to monitor interactions with our websites, identify you and maintain your user preferences, tailor web content to match your browser capability, analyze usage trends, administer and improve our websites, identify irregular website behavior, prevent fraudulent activity and improve security.

For example, we may automatically collect certain non-personal information from you, such as the type of web browser and operating system you use, the name of your Internet service provider, Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, software version, and course geolocation information (for example, based on IP address or location of cellular tower used for the connection). In addition, we may collect information about your browsing behavior, such as the date and time you visit our websites, the amount of time you spend viewing or using our websites, the number of times you return to our websites, and other click-stream or Site usage data.

Information We Collect: Information From Third Parties


We may collect personal information from third parties, such as service and content providers, our affiliated companies and subsidiaries, business partners, data brokers, social media companies, advertising partners and providers, background check firms, data aggregators, and other parties who interact with us.

The type of personal information we obtain from third parties may include your demographic information, interests and publicly observed data (such as from social media and shopping behavior), credit information, and professional experience.


How We Use Your Information


Coverys may use the information we collect from and about you for any of the following purposes:

  • Furnish, maintain, and improve our Services;
  • Create accounts and provide you with access to our Services;
  • Communicate with you regarding our Services (for example, reports, publications, and risk management resources);
  • Respond to your inquiries;
  • Enhance and personalize your experience on our Services;

How We Share Your Personal Information


We may disclose personal information that we collect or you provide as described in this privacy statement to our subsidiaries and affiliates.

In the course of doing business, we employ service providers and individuals to perform a variety of functions on our behalf. These service providers may have access to your personal information if it is needed to perform their functions for us, but they are not authorized by Coverys to use or disclose the information except as necessary to perform services on our behalf or to comply with legal requirements. These service providers are also required to maintain the information in confidence.

If you take a continuing education course, we may disclose your personal information to accrediting bodies and other parties that support our educational programs and offerings. 

We also disclose information to advertising partners and ad networks, which help us place online ads that are tailored to the content you are viewing or tailored to your interests. 

In addition, we may disclose information where we think it is necessary to investigate or prevent an actual or suspected crime or injury to ourselves or others, if required by law, or in response to a request from law enforcement authorities or other government officials.

During the normal course of our business, Coverys may sell or purchase assets. If another entity acquires, or seeks to acquire, us or any of our assets, information we have collected about you may be transferred to such entity. In addition, if any bankruptcy or reorganization proceeding is brought by or against us, such information may be considered an asset of ours and may be sold or transferred to third parties. Should a sale or transfer occur, we will use reasonable efforts to try to require that the transferee use personal information provided through our Sites in a manner that is consistent with this privacy statement.

We may also disclose personal information that we collect or you provide as described in this privacy statement to fulfill the purpose for which you provide it, for any other purpose disclosed by us when you provide the information, or with your consent.

Do Not Track Signals 


Our websites do not recognize browser “do-not-track” signals or similar mechanisms. Our websites are not intended for children under 13 years of age. No one under age 13 may provide any personal information to or on the websites. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
